10:00 am - 11.30 am
In this workshop, we'll teach you those “fun”-damental steps; everything you need to know to get grooving right away. This will be through some freestyle exercises, along with how to make the moves your own and jam with others.
LUNCH BREAK - 30 minutes
You’re welcome to bring your own lunch and sit outside at the oval, stay indoors and stretch, or take a short walk down the block to grab some sushi!
Workshop 2 - Classic Routine: The Tranky Doo
12 pm - 1:30 pm
This routine is part of the holy trinity of original swing-era jazz routines. (The other two being the Shim-Sham and the Big Apple.) Its origins are mysterious, and what we dance today is likely a product of many dancers adding parts or making changes. Swing dance myth and rumours say that Frankie Manning choreographed this routine after a chorus girl who did some very funky fall-off-the-log steps. You can read more here and even watch it with original jazz dancers, here! 🔥____________________________________________________________
