Latest news 21st April 2016

Hello everyone! Another month, another awesome lineup of jazz gigs and hijinks to be had! We’ve got some fun stuff coming up here at Swing Out Adelaide, but there are also tons of gigs to check out all over Adelaide. Have a look at the “What’s On” section for all the deets. We especially recommend checking out the traditional Anzac Day Street Party! If you’ve heard of a gig we haven’t please let us know!
International Dance Day is coming up next Friday (April 29th) and we’ve organised a flash mob to happen along North Terrace, and we’d love as many people along as possible. Details below.
Questions about anything? Check out our website, email, or chat to us at class.
Happy dancing!

We recently announced some changes to our timetable from May 26th. The biggest change is that you now need to pre-book for our 6 week beginner course and we are no longer running drop in beginner classes (but will have a free taster class between each block). You can read all about them here.

April 28th 6.30pm: 3 week Intermediate course “Frankie Favourites”
Frankie Manning is one of the most famous swing dancers of all time and he played an enormous role in bringing swing dancing back through the 1980s and 90s.This 3 week course will take a look at some of his favourite moves, in preperation for our celebration of World Lindy Hop Day (which falls on Frankie’s birthday – 26th May) on the 19th of May.
Please note 2 x beginner swing courses are a pre-requisite for this course.

May 26th 6.30pm: 3 week Intermediate course “Swing Out Variations”
Add some variety to your swing outs with Luna and Jarryd’s favourite variations! Kick ball change, stomp drag, swivels and more that can apply to your swing out but also lots of other spaces in your dancing. 2 x beginner courses are a pre-requisite for this course

May 26th 7.45pm: 6 week beginner swing dancing course
Our 6 week beginner courses are designed to teach you the basics of Lindy Hop and get you on the dance floor in no time! You don’t need a partner as we rotate partners so you get to meet and dance with a lot of different people. We cover basic Lindy Hop rhythms, shapes and social dancing skills in a fun and friendly environment. We also have a social dancing session half an hour after class so you can practice what you learnt in class.
BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL for this course and places are limited, so please book here.

For all the info about classes check out our website and FAQ.

Friday April 29th is International Dance Day! We’ve registered with Finsart (who are coordinating tons of different dance groups) to have a group perform a flash mob, and we want as many people to be involved as possible!

We’ll flash 3 numbers one after the other
– The Big Apple
– Social song (song TBD)
– The Shim Sham

The Shim Sham is where we want the largest number possible! If you don’t know it – here is a great tutorial on Youtube.

Friday 29th April at 5.30pm on North Terrace (exact location TBD). If you’re interested in being a part please RSVP on Facebook or email Luna at

We’re holding a very special event to celebrate the graduates of our 6 week beginner swing dancing course and to introduce them to the wider swing community. The night also falls the week before World Lindy Hop Day – so it’s a double whammy of celebrations! Featuring live music from The Atlantic Street Band, a short beginner class, fun games, a J&J competition, and more.
Thursday 19th May
Beginner swing class at 8.00pm
Live music and celebrations kick off from 8.45pm-11.30pm
